Geraldine Rebecca McElhannon Hart

Geraldine Rebecca McElhannon Hart, age 78, of Cornelia, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021.

Born in Athens, on November 23, 1942, she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Minnie Bell Stephens  McElhannon. Mrs. Hart was formerly employed with Alto Grocery as night manager for over 12 years. She was a member of Cornelia Congregational Holiness Church and taught Children’s Church for over 40 years. Mrs. Hart enjoyed reading the Bible, cross stitching, needle point stitching, cooking, and crafts in her spare time.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hart was also preceded in death by sons, Jeffrey Eugene Hart and Kenneth Kevin Hart; 
brother, Carlton Jackson McElhannon; and sisters, Sarah Frances Davis and Barbara Ann McCoy.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Hart of Cornelia; daughters, Tamari Hill (Bradley) of Baldwin and Stephanie Herring (Kim Nix) of Danielsville; daughter-in-law, Janet Hart of Watkinsville; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Kevin Hart and Rev. Terry Benfield officiating. Interment will follow in Level Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Monday, September 20, 2021, at the funeral home.

Edna Lois Allen Black

In Loving Memory

Edna Lois Allen Black 
July 7, 1933 – September 17, 2021

Edna Lois Allen Black, of Gainesville, formerly of Demorest, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021, at the age of 88 after a period of declining health.  

She was the daughter of the late Arvel West and Nell Power Allen. Edna was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Russell Herman Black and seven of her eight brothers and sisters.

Edna is survived by her son, Joel Dennis Black of Sandy Springs; daughter, Beverly Black Lammers (Tom) of Sautee; grandson, Zachary Thomas Lammers (Tracy) and great-grandson, Russell Thomas Lammers, all of Roswell; sister, Yvonne Lindsay (Charles “Bunky”) of Clarkesville; and a number of nieces and nephews. Edna’s family was very important to her.

As an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church until recent years, Edna was involved in diverse aspects of leadership including teacher of pre-school children to senior adults, church benevolence, discipleship, training and many supporting activities. She was a member of the Singing Saints choir.

Edna graduated from Clarkesville High School in 1950 as the class valedictorian. She was a graduate of Piedmont College, North Georgia College and State University, and the University of Georgia. She completed six years of college after age 37. Most of her work years were spent in the Habersham County Schools in the positions of teacher, instructional supervisor, and curriculum director.

Edna grew up on the farm and always considered it a blessing to be a part of a large family. She had an appreciation 
for hard work. She was number six in a family of nine children.

Edna would openly share that her best decisions in life were to accept Jesus as her personal Savior and to marry 
Herman Black. Herman and Edna always believed that God put them together.

Edna will be laid to rest following a private family Celebration of Life service. Inurnment will be at Bethlehem 
Baptist Church Cemetery in Clarkesville beside her beloved husband of 65 years.

Geralene Tomlin Hicks

Geralene Tomlin Hicks, age 94 of Cleveland, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021.

Born in Cleveland, Georgia on April 27, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Hoke Tomlin and Cora Lee Bowen Tomlin. Mrs. Hicks was a retired Poultry Farmer and a member of Good News Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hicks was also preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Charlie Price Hicks; brother, Lloyd Tomlin; sister, Sylvia Ann Chastain.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Mitcheal and Sandra Hicks of Cleveland; grandchildren, Allyson Jones (Steve), Brandon Hicks, and Heath Hicks all of Cleveland, and Jared Hicks (Bea) of Dawsonville; great grandchildren, Emilee Jones and Chase Hicks; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 am, Friday, September 17, 2021 in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart 
with Rev. Austin Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in Good News Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.

Tony Kirk Maxwell

Tony Kirk Maxwell, age 55, of Cornelia, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021.

Born on June 10, 1966, in Springfield, Ohio, he was a son of the late Walter Brown and Shirley McKee Howard. Mr. Maxwell spent most of his life in North Georgia. He loved his children and in-laws and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his father-in-law.  He also loved Bruce Lee and Tony Stewart and was one who never met a stranger. Mr. Maxwell had a passion for cooking and was the owner and operator of Big T’s BBQ and Catering. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Delores Denise Young Maxwell of Cornelia; son, Xavier Maxwell of Lawrenceville; daughters, Toni S. Maxwell of Cornelia and Lashawn Thompson of Arizona; 
daughter and daughter-in-law, Amanda and Shasmon Colbert of Cornelia; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elizabeth and Henry Young of Cornelia; three grandchildren; seven God kids; brothers and sister-in-law: Jonathan “Chuck” Williams of Athens, Christopher Maxwell (Raymond Thomas) of Atlanta, Eric Brown of Greenville, NC, Kevin and Tracey Collins of Stockbridge, and Tiko Brown of Toccoa; special brother and friend, Johnny Gilliam of Cornelia; sisters: Monique Dancer of Lillington, NC, Janice Ferguson of Toccoa, Gia Hicks of Duluth, and Elece Brown of Toccoa; brother-in-laws, James Young and Ronnie Young both of Cornelia; sister-in-law, Michelle Young (Tim Banks) of Cornelia; special sister and friend, Beverly Nunez of Cornelia; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins; a special family The Doughtys: Susan Wages Heather, Ashley and Robert Doughty; The Tomlins/ Jackson Jimmy and Kim Tomlin and John Jackson all of Dahlonega. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Oliver Dorsey, Sr., Pastor officiating. Mr. Maxwell will lie in state from 1:00 pm until the service hour. Funeral services will be live-streamed from McGahee-Griffin and Stewarts Facebook page for those not able to attend.

Tiffany Ann Medlin Moss

Tiffany Ann Medlin Moss, age 41, of Mt. Airy, Georgia, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.

Born on June 3, 1980, in Habersham County, Georgia, she was the daughter of Charles Medlin and Gloria Jenkins Medlin.

Ms. Moss was a 1998 graduate of Habersham Central High School. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Georgia Southern University and later received her Early Childhood Education degree from Armstrong Atlantic State University. 

She was currently employed at Habersham Headstart/Pre-K. Ms. Moss was a member of River Point Community Church in Demorest, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Medlin; brother, Craig Medlin; grandparents; and many aunts, uncles 
and cousins.

Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Moss of Mt. Airy; mother, Gloria Jenkins Medlin of Demorest; sister-in-law, 
Melissa “Missy” Medlin of Cornelia; nephew, Turner Medlin of Cornelia; and niece, Brady Medlin of Cornelia.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, September 19, 2021, at McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Mangum officiating.  

The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the memorial.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to River Point Community Church, 350 Ansley Road, 
Demorest, Georgia 30535.

Wesley Avery "Wes" Dodd, Jr.

Wesley Avery “Wes” Dodd, Jr., age 56, of Cornelia, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 9, 1965, in Demorest, he was the son of the late Wesley Avery Dodd, Sr. and Frances Baldwin Purvis Dodd Robinson of Tignall. As a child, he grew up going to the family home on Lake Rabun and continued to make countless memories there with his family. Wes enjoyed hiking, pheasant hunting, and annual hunting trips to South Dakota. He had a love for the Boy Scouts and traveled to Philmont Scout 
Ranch BSA six times. All six times were memorable, but the most memorable time was when he was able to share this experience with all three of his sons. His daughter was his Princess whom he spoiled and mentored.

Mr. Dodd adored his family and cherished spending time with them. He was a member and active deacon of 
First Baptist Church of Cornelia.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of Georgia. Mr. Dodd was a 
Cornelia Commissioner since November 2006, where he was an important part of the city’s success over the past 15 years. He was elected to the National Board of Directors of Woodmen Life in 2010 and has been a member of Chapter 553 in Cornelia for the last 21 years. Mr. Dodd served as a National Representative and past President 
of the Georgia Jurisdiction and was a member of the Georgia Fraternal Alliance. He was the Chief Financial Officer for Habersham Metal Products, and served as a financial officer and practicing public accountant. He was involved in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and served as an assistant scoutmaster. Mr. Dodd was active in the Northeast Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as a District Committee chair and member of the Council Executive Board and also served on the Eagle Board of Review. Mr. Dodd earned the award of Eagle Scout, 
was a Silver Beaver recipient, and received the Distinguished Citizen Award. Despite his short time here, he 
accomplished many achievements, made a multitude of friendships, and created numerous memories.  

In addition to his mother, survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Kerri Dillard Dodd of Cornelia; son and daughter-in-law, Wesley Avery Dodd III and Lauren of Clarkesville; daughter and fiancé, Diana Grace Dodd and Dillon Richards of Charlotte, NC; stepsons, William Terrell Rogers and Amy of Suwanee and Bradley Douglas Rogers and Claudia of Decatur; grandchildren: Holcomb Dodd, Isla Dodd, Banks Rogers, Jones Rogers, and Rust Rogers; 
two soon to arrive grandchildren, Ollie Dodd and Baby Rogers; and longtime fur babies, Champ and Molly.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 10, 2021, at First Baptist Church of Cornelia with 
Rev. Hobie Wood, Rev. David Turner, and Wesley Avery Dodd III officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home.

Jayne Louise Fry England

Jayne Louise Fry England, age 51, of Cornelia, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at home surrounded 
by her loved ones.

Born on July 23, 1970, in York, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late William Ambrose and Helen Louise 
Sprenkle Fry. 

Ms. England was a licensed cosmetologist and worked with the Habersham County Clerk of Court.

She was a fashionista who loved shoes and a giving person who spoiled her family, especially her nieces, 
nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. 

Ms. England enjoyed Sunday dinners and making those around her smile.

She liked Harley Motorcycles, racing, and football, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Fry.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Brandon and Emily England of Mississippi and Ty and Jasmine England of Pennsylvania; four grandchildren; brothers and spouses: James and Peggy Fry, William F. and Mike Fry, Michael and Christina Fry, Donald and Thea Fry, all of Pennsylvania; sisters and brothers-in-law: Georgia and Mike Amspacher of Pennsylvania, Joyce Wood of Pennsylvania, and Joan and Luther Spurlock of Cornelia; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Fry of Maryland; nephews and spouses, David and Candice Spurlock of Baldwin and Daniel and Nichole Spurlock of Cornelia; great nephew, Danny; great nieces: Kayla, Lilly, and Abigail; and numerous other nieces, nephews, and other relatives 
and friends.

Kathy Jean Gerrin Sosebee

Kathy Jean Gerrin Sosebee, age 61, of Cornelia, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021.

Born on July 28, 1960, in Demorest, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Lovadia Chastain Gerrin. Mrs. Sosebee was a loving, hardworking and sometimes strong-willed individual who especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her loving companion, Gary Baker of Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Joshua Grier of Cornelia; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Heather Ausburn of Demorest; grandchildren: Aubree Grier 
and John, Anna, Noah, Emma, and Zoey Ausburn; brothers: Harold, Larry, Ricky, Randy, and James Gerrin, all of 
Cornelia; sister, Barbara Poss of Alaska; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
