Adell Wilson McAlister

Adell Wilson McAlister age 89 of Demorest, passed away Monday, May 23, 2022. 

Born in on June 8, 1932 she was a daughter of the late Lester Wilson and Ruby Black Wilson. Mrs. McAlister was a homemaker who loved the Lord and loved her family. She enjoyed singing and being a friend to those around her. 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles J. McAlister; sons and daughter-in-law, Donnie McAlister (Marilyn) and Charlie McAlister; sisters, Catherine Nations, Eva Mae Tomlin and Frances Wilson.  

Survivors included sister, Evelyn Marie Wilson Helton of Cleveland; grandson and spouse, Ronnie McAlister (Paula) of Alto; great grandchildren, Tiffany, Ali and Heavenly Joyce McAlister; six great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held 12 noon, Friday, May 27, 2022 in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart with Rev. Billy Burrell and Rev. Dennis Taylor officiating. 

The family will receive friends from 10 am – 12 noon on Friday prior to service at the funeral home.

Joan Brenda Allen White

Joan Brenda Allen White, age 79, of Cornelia, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022.

Born on November 15, 1942, in Demorest, she was a daughter of the late Cecil Allen and Carrie Sybel Irvin Allen. Joan managed textile mills for Outerwear, Academy Garment Company and Gillsville Manufacturing and later retired as a bookkeeper for Yearwood Logging. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, singing, playing the guitar, cooking, and reading. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by sister, Ruthie Allen Irvin.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Danette White Canfield (Scott) of Lavonia, and Andrea White Irvin (Drew) of Baldwin; grandchildren, Kayla Leverette (Brandon), Meagan Lovell, Abby Irvin, Maggie Irvin, and Jack Irvin; greatngrandchildren, Evan Leverette and Bryan Leverette; brother and sister-in-law, KeithnAllen (Teresa) of Mt. Airy; sister and brother-in-law, Jo Beth McConnell (William) of Clarkesville; brother-in-law, Bobby Irvin of Baldwin; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart with Rev. Dennis Dills officiating. Interment will follow in Victory Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Shane Jenkins officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at the funeral home.

Tessa Lynn Forrester Croy age 56 of Alto, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2022.

Born on November 11, 1965 in Tampa, Florida, she was the daughter of Thomas Earl Forrester and Margie Lynn Wade Thacker of Commerce, Georgia. Tessa was a member of Free Chapel.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by, husband, Robert Terry Croy, son, T.J. Prine of Tampa, Florida; daughters, Kami Prine of Plant City, Florida, Ishla Anderson of Lebanon, Tennessee; brother, Lee McWatters of Commerce, Georgia; grandchildren, Natalie Prine, Kilee Prine and Scarlett Prine; and several nieces and nephews.

Deborah Ann Eller

Deborah Ann Eller, age 59 of Demorest, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022.

Born on November 26, 1962, in Demorest, she was a daughter of the late David Dison Eller, Jr. and Carolyn Viola Scott Eller. Deborah was a cheerful and eager volunteer and loved gardening. She was the family babysitter and care giver and was a member of River Road Mission Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law Tony Hall.

Survivors include, brother and sister-in-law David Dison Eller, III (Annette) of Cool Springs Community; sister, Sandra Hall of Demorest; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon Lea Moore (Phillip) of Demorest, Charolotte Dodd (James Hopkins) of Demorest; nieces and nephews, Tonya Hall, Matt Moore, Ted Dodd, Jennifer Rudell, Tammy Resendiz and David Eller, IV; 13 great nieces and nephews.

Mildred Louise Gudger Smith

Mildred Louise Gudger Smith, age 91 of Demorest, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022. 

Born on   28, 1931, in Turnerville, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Gudger and Belle May Gudger. She worked at Clarkesville Mills for a number of years before becoming a homemaker and babysitter. Mrs. Smith enjoyed family gatherings, canning and gardening. She was a member and taught Sunday school for 30 years at Fairfield Baptist Church and most recently attended Victory Baptist Church. Mildred was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who cherished her family deeply.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Homer Smith; son, Charles Steve Smith; grandson, James Ronald Corn; brother, J.C. Gudger; and sisters, Ruth Mason and Thelma Thomas.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie Smith (Beverly), Doug Smith (Debbie), Brady Smith (Mary), all of Demorest; daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila McCutcheon (Butch), Sherrie Colbert (Jeff), all of Demorest; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; sister, Doris Rigdon of Eastanollee; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 3 pm, Sunday, May 22, 2022, at Victory Baptist Church with Rev. Shane Jenkins and Rev. Keith Allison officiating. Interment will follow in Fairfield Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 pm on Saturday, May 21, 2022 and from 12 noon – 2 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.

Betty Kimbrell Payne

Betty Kimbrell Payne, age 83, of Toccoa, passed away Monday, May 16, 2022.

Born on December 11, 1938, in Demorest, she was a daughter of the late Tommy Kimbrell and Bonnie Pitts Kimbrell. Mrs. Payne was of the Baptist faith and a faithful member of Currahee Baptist Church. She loved flowers and also enjoyed cooking for everyone.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emerson H. Payne; brothers: Lloyd, Joe, Ralph, Howard, Wilkie, and Edward Kimbrell; and grandson, Joshua Carroll.

She is survived by daughters, Melinda Corona of Commerce and Patricia Lewallen of Toccoa; son, Quinton Lewallen and fiancé, Brandi of Toccoa; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; brothers, J.C. Kimbrell and Efford Kimbrell, both of Demorest; sister, Katherine Rider of Gainesville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 2 pm Wednesday, May 18, 2022 in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Beasley, Rev. Truitt Phillips, and Rev. David Ledford officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Leighton Everly Shirley, infant daughter of Evan and Alexas Shirley of Baldwin, was born and also passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, in Gainesville.

In addition to her parents, survivors also include grandparents, Jim and Chrissy Andrews, and Paul and Lynn Shirley; great grandmother, Pat Andrews; aunts and uncles: Bryce Andrews; Alex and Casey Shirley and their son Lennox; Lindsey and Zach Moore, theirs daughters, Ansley and Hannah and son, Oliver; Jonathan and Leah Dick, their sons Solomon and Elijah and daughter, Hannah.

She was preceded in death by great grandparents: Bobby and Barbara Shirley; Jurell and Joyce Ruis; Rodger and Pat Berry; Edwin Andrews: great uncle, Craig Medlin.

Memorial services are 1 pm on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Level Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Brian James officiating.

David Lee Radabaugh

David Lee Radabaugh, age 75, of Cornelia, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022

Born on February 14, 1947 in Ohio, he was a son of the late Roy Eugene Radabaugh and Marie Ross Spiegel. Mr. Radabaugh was retired from Fieldale Corporation where he worked in security. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Larry and Bob Radabaugh.

He is survived by his daughters, Ruth Ward and Angie Radabaugh, both of Mt. Airy; and sister, Judy Hesse of Florida; grandchildren, Madeline Ward, Nathan Ward and fiancé’ Brianna Goss, Adam Radabaugh, Oscar O’Bradovich, C.J. O’Bradovich; great grandchildren, Avalee Ward and Layla Trantham; and special friend, Judy Cowart.

Bobby D. Gibson

Bobby D. Gibson, age 60, of Cornelia, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022

Born on November 17, 1961 in Demorest Georgia, he was a son of Wanda Kay Hogan Gibson McEntire and the late Gerald Roosevelt Gibson. Mr. Gibson was employed by Hogan Lumber Company. Mr. Gibson was of the Baptist Faith, he enjoyed gardening, working on cars, and love being outdoors.

In addition to his mother, Wanda Kay Hogan Gibson McEntire of Demorest, survivors include brother, Charles Gibson of Demorest; sister and fiancé, Donna Bradshaw and Jerry Carruth of Commerce; Nieces, Toni Kay Moore, and Jennifer Marie Burton; Nephew, Adam Charles Gibson; Special friend, Antonio Nunez. Mr. Gibson is also survived by many other close friends.

Memorial services are scheduled for 10 A.M., Tuesday, May 10, 2022, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart with Rev. Kenneth Taylor officiating.

Eva Mae Burton Holland Garner

Eva Mae Burton Holland Garner, age 94, of Cornelia, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022.  

Born on August 4, 1927 in Rabun County, she was a daughter of the late Grant James Burton and Dora York Burton. Mrs. Garner retired from Riegel/Mt. Vernon Mills after 28 years of service and was the oldest living member of Friendly Mission Baptist Church.  Mrs. Garner loved her family and never met a stranger.  She was young at heart, and would sometimes sit with “old people” who were actually younger than she. In her spare time, she enjoyed the simple things of life such as gardening, cooking and flowers.  

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by son, Larry Holland; son-in-law, Billy Lewallen; daughter-in-law, Brenda Burton; brothers, Paul Burton, Gene Burton, and Arnold Burton; sisters, Ruth Trotter, Cora Lee Kimsey, Ethel Lee O’Kelly, and Pearl Taylor. 

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, James Burton of Alto, Tim Garner (Sandra) of Lula, and Sherry Holland of Mt. Airy; daughters, Laverne Lewallen, and Tammy Murray both of Cornelia; sister, Patricia Kranats of Demorest; and 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. 

Funeral services are scheduled for 12 noon on Saturday, May 7, 2022, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart with Rev. Danny O’Kelly, Rev. Devin O’Kelly and Mr. Greg Lewallen officiating.  Interment will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Austin Kelley officiating.

Donny Telford Brewer

Donny Telford Brewer, age 65, of Demorest, passed away Monday, May 2, 2022. 

Born on August 1, 1956, he was a son of the late Telford William Brewer and Verbie Lou Jarrard Brewer. Donny was a cook at Ma Gooch’s and Creek Side Deli off and on for 26 years and later retired from Freudenberg - NOK. He loved his family and expressed his giving personality by his volunteer work with Relay for Life and other charitable functions. He was a very detail oriented decorator with unique taste. In his spare time he enjoyed going to Cocoa Beach, estate sales, thrifting, working in his yard, cooking and high end cars. 

Survivors include his spouse, Bradley Brown of Demorest; daughter and son-in-law, Jill Brewer Barrett (Timothy Grady) of Cornelia; step-mother, Patsy “Pat” Brewer of Cornelia; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lynell Wade (Kenneth) of Demorest, Becky Gibson (Robbie) of Clarkesville, and Vicki Brewer Vinson of Cornelia; brothers and sister-in-law, Charles Brewer (Louise) of Dahlonega, and Frank Ridlehoover of Hephzibah, Georgia; mother-in-law, Bessie Brown of Mt. Airy; sisters-in-law, Deborah Cook of Cornelia, and Diane Moore (Alan) of Flowery Branch; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Asher James Williams

Infant Asher James Williams, son of Jebb Connor Williams and Danielle Leann Waters of Cornelia, was born on March 28, 2022 in Gainesville and passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2022. 

In addition to his parents, Asher is also survived by his grandparents, Kevin and Misty Williams of Cornelia and Danny and Amanda Waters of Alto; great grandparents, Buster and Tillie Williams of Clarkesville; Betty Whitfield of Cornelia, Mary Ann McDuffie (Joe) of Alto, Ronnie Ross (Vanessa Hall) of Griffin, Ronnie and Denise Scott of Newnan; numerous aunts and uncles.  

He was preceded in death by great grandparents, Doug Porterfield, Anita Franklin, and James Steve Waters; and great-great grandmother Eva Ruth Bruce.

Katrina Elizabeth Lawrence Bearden

Katrina Elizabeth Lawrence Bearden, age 46, of Toccoa, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2022. 

Born on September 28, 1975, in Demorest, she was a daughter of Glenn D. Lawrence and Vera Ann Justus Lawrence of Lakemont. Katrina loved playing spades online and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Brian Joe Bearden. 

In addition to her parents, survivors include her son, Scott Bearden of Clarkesville; daughter and son-in-law, Haley Alexis Lewis (Douglas) of Cornelia; granddaughter, Kapri Lewis; and sisters: Tina Bearden of Dewey Rose, Angela Loggins of Cornelia and Glenda Yarber of Homer.

Pete Hughes

Pete Hughes age 75, of Mt Airy, Georgia passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022.  Mr. Hughes was born on February 14, 1947, in Murphy, North Carolina. He was a son of the late Robert Lee Hughes and Julia Lee Hughes.  He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Commerce, Georgia, and was a retired Communications Contractor.  Mr. Hughes was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.  

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters and brother; Christine Worley, Rebeca Worley, Ruth Hughes and Bruce Hughes. 

Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Rhonda Haynes Hughes of Mt. Jerry Nicholas "Nick" Carroll

Jerry Nicholas “Nick” Carroll, age 56, of Demorest, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2022. 

Born on March 4, 1966, in Demorest, he was a son of Edith Hooper Carroll of Clarkesville and the late Jerry Lamar Carroll. Nick was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather, who was described by his family as very determined and hardworking.  He was a carpenter by trade and in his spare time enjoyed wood working, the outdoors, vegetable gardening and going to flea markets. 

In addition to his mother, he is also survived by his wife, Stephanie Moore Carroll of Westminster, South Carolina; son, Dalton Carroll of Westminster, South Carolina; daughter & fiancé, Logan Carroll (Alex Morgan) of Westminster, S. A joint Celebration of Life will be held for Nick and his father, Jerry, who recently passed, at 3 pm, Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Macedonia Baptist Church, 6396 New Liberty Road, Clarkesville, Georgia 30523, with Pastor Ronnie Powell officiating.  

The family will receive friends from 2 pm until the service hour on Saturday, at the church.
