James L. "JL" Wright

James L. “JL” Wright, age 80 of Cornelia, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 19, 2021.

James was born on September 11, 1941 in Alto, Georgia to the late Carvin Thomas and Lucy Mae Kimsey Wright.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wilburn Wright; first wife, Beverly Page Wright; 
infant daughter, Pamela Kay Wright; son, Kenneth Scott Wright; granddaughter, Tiffany Amber Wright Gossette; and second wife, Victoria Genovese Wright.

Survivors include his brothers, Bruce Wright (Kathy), Weldon Wright (Karen), and Tommy Wright (Suzanne); sister, 
Nadine Wright Thomas (Paul); grandson, Daniel Wright (Anna); numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends in Georgia as well as Maryland, where he lived from 1982 to 2019.

James was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served eight years in the sixties as a Photographer and another four years in 
the eighties as an Operations Specialist. He was a Life Member of the VFW Post #7720 in Cornelia, Georgia.

He retired from Westinghouse/ Northrup Grumman Corporation in Linthicum, Maryland, having worked in the security 
department. He had previously been a truck driver for Mayflower Van Lines, Bekins Van Lines, Bowman Transportation, Thurston Motor Lines, Ryder and the Army/ Air Force Exchange Service. He had also worked at Riegel Textiles as a weaver and then as a spinning frame fixer. He graduated from NGTVS as a watch repairman in the 1970s.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 22, 2021 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm.

It was his wish to have no service in Georgia, but to be sent back to Maryland for a wake and services at the Singleton 
Funeral Home in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Following those services, he will be laid to rest with his wife, Victoria at the 
Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, Maryland located at 1080 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, Maryland.

Dorothy Lou Dodd Turner

Dorothy Lou Dodd Turner, age 89 of Alto, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021.

Born July 4, 1932, in Banks County, she was a daughter of the late Silas and Lonnie Standridge Dodd. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time and having fun with her family. She especially enjoyed listening 
to her family sing gospel music. She loved the Lord and was strong in her Pentecostal faith. She was also a hard working homemaker who enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, cooking, yard sales, and trips to the mountains in her spare time.  

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Turner was also preceded in death by her husband, L.C. Turner; granddaughter, Heather Lynn Turner; great grandchildren, Hendrix Lee Benfield and Allyson Ferguson; son-in-law, Helmut Feller; siblings, Lonzo Dodd, Vasco Dodd, Leler Bell Armour, Mamie Lewallen, Leroy Dodd, Thelma Wiley, Ruby Mae Smallwood, Edith Crocker, John B. Dodd, Paul Dodd, and Elma Brown.

Survivors include her children and spouses, Brenda & Steve Finley of Cleveland, Arlene & Michel Clouatre 
of Clarkesville, Doris Feller of Alto, Stevie & Lisa Turner of Cornelia, Teresa & Tab Dean of Alto, Jeannie & Mike Pulliam of Royston, and Stanley Turner of Alto; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lillian Dodd of Alto; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 pm, Sunday October 17, 2021 at B.C. Grant Baptist Church with Rev. Junior Robinson, Sis. Barbara Nash, and Rev. Clarence Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Jacob Armour officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm on Friday, October 15, 2021 and again from 4-7 pm on Saturday, October 16, 2021.

James L. "Don" Simmons

James L. “Don” Simmons, age 82 of Cornelia, passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021.

Born in Alto, Georgia on August 27, 1939, he was a son of the late William Vasco Simmons and Ora Mae Wade Simmons. Mr. Simmons was the plant manager of Schnadig for 41 years. He 
proudly served his country in the United States Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Elaine Pardue Simmons; grandchildren, Casey James Simmons, Kevin Scott Simmons and Kayla Elaine Simmons; brother, William Odis Simmons.

Surviving are his son, Scott Wade Simmons of Alto; daughters and sons-in-law, Ginger Elaine Swilley (Paul) of 
Cornelia and Joy Simmons White (Jeff) of Alto; grandchildren, Haley Caroline Irvin (Ethan) and Grason Scott White 
(Emily); great-grandchildren, John Riggins Irvin, James Everett Irvin, and Benjamin Lee White; brothers, Harold 
Wayne Simmons of Oakwood and Danny Lee Simmons of Alto; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

James enjoyed being a family man and was a wonderful husband, father, and papa. He loved spending time with his 
family around the dinner table, taking many trips on the golf cart, and always had a solution for any project big or small. James was a beloved member of Mt. Zion UMC and served his community selflessly. Those that knew James knew a friend.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Mt. Zion U.M.C. in Alto, Georgia at 2 pm on Saturday, October 30, 2021.

Ruby Goldie Thomason Free

Ruby Goldie Thomason Free, age 79 of Nicholson, formerly of Habersham County, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021.

Born on April 3, 1942, in Cornelia, she was a daughter of the late Terry E. and Perna Tench Thomason. Mrs. Free was retired from ConAgra Foods with 27 years of service and was a member of Mud Creek Baptist Church. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In her spare time, she was an avid reader.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Free was also preceded in death by a sons-in-law, Yogi DeMonia, and Gary Thomason; daughter-in-law, Connie Smith Bryant; sister, Sylvia Thomason Parker.

Survivors include children, Tina Robin Bryant DeMonia of Clarkesville, Steven Benson Bryant of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Michelle Lynn Puckett of Jefferson, and Kendra Joy Free Miller (Bruce, Jr.) of Clermont; grandchildren, Chad, Heather, Brad, Casey, Jessie, Melissa, Stephanie, Colby, Haley, Stacie, Tracie, and Cade; 15 great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Vickie Thomason Evans (James) of Gainesville; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services are 11 am on Monday, October 11, 2021, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart. Interment will follow in the Old Mud Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Dorothy Marilla Martin

Dorothy Marilla Martin (b. November 21, 1944), died Tuesday, October 5, of complications related to multiple myeloma.  

Marilla, often referred to as “Wah” by many of her family members, was a master gardener and lasagna maker, as well as a retired art teacher who worked for 30 years in the Habersham County Department of Education.  

She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles, as well as her parents, Agnes and Roy Stephens.

She is survived by her husband, Hilias “Butch” Martin; her sons, Jack and Roy Martin; daughter-in-law, Jaci Gonzales 
Martin and grandsons, Felix and Murphy; her son-in-law, James Murdock; her sisters, Lucile Stephens, Marcia Scroggs, and Carolyn Simmons; and many nieces and nephews.

Marilla loved gardening, classical music, opera, arts of all sorts, avocado sandwiches, her family, and her cats. 
An artist herself, she and her sisters, nieces, and cousin exhibited their work across the state, often in collaborative 
shows. Evidence of her artistic ability can be seen on the walls of her house, the backs of her checkbooks, fly swatters, toilet paper rolls, and other random places.

A private celebration of her life will be held for her family and friends.

Teresa Kay Mulinax

Teresa Kay Mullinax, age 61 of Clarkesville, passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2021.

Born in Demorest, Georgia on May 29, 1960, she was a daughter of the late Guy Howard and Emma Forrester Mullinax. Teresa was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Demorest and previously worked for Standard Telephone, Alltel and Windstream. She was a caregiver who loved her family, children and animals, especially her cats. 

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Melvin & Leota Mullinax; brothers, Larry A. Mullinax and Barry M. Mullinax. 

Surviving are her brothers and sisters-in-law, J.G. & Bonnie Mullinax of Mt. Airy and Earnest & Jo Mullinax of Alto; sister-in-law, Charlene Mullinax of Clarkesville; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Janet Carol Smith Whitfield, age 67 of Demorest, passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2021.

Born in Toccoa, Georgia on November 16, 1953, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Travis Smith and Frances Emmalene Savage Smith. Janet loved her family, arts and crafts.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, Joey Smith and Marvin Smith.

Surviving are her husband, John Whitfield of Demorest; daughters and sons-in-law, Tonya & Donald Smith of Demorest, Brandy & Walter Anderson of Alto and Kimberly Whitfield of Demorest; step-daughter, Krystian Whitfield of Helen; step-sons, Toby Whitfield of Demorest and Shane Whitfield of Clarkesville; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ira Smith and Ralph Smith both of Baldwin, James “Hoss” Smith of Demorest; several nieces, nephews, other

Loretta Joan “Lou” Fry, age 60 of Mt. Airy, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021.

Born in Gainesville, Georgia on November 10, 1960 she was a daughter of the late Benton Fry and Doris Ann Scott. Lou was an avid sports fan, always cheering for the Braves, Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Hawks and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Surviving are her brothers and sisters-in-law, Joel A. & Sherry Fry of Clarkesville and James Scott & Jennifer Fry of Tucson, Arizona; sister and brother-in-law, Tara & Dustin Davey of Kennesaw; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Rev. Julian David Wiley

Rev. Julian David Wiley, age 89 of Lula, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021 surrounded by his family.

Born in Lula, Georgia on August 16, 1932, he was a son of the late David Adeline Wiley and Millie Ann Savage Wiley. Rev. Wiley was the pastor of Living Word Tabernacle which he founded in 1975. He was also a self-employed farmer and logger who enjoyed his horses, mules, cows and gardening. He loved his family but his greatest passions were preaching and tent meetings.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Evelyn Wilson Wiley; brother, James Marion Wiley; sisters, Edith Wiley Pittman and Clara Wiley Pittman; granddaughter, Amber Kay Wiley; great-granddaughter, Zoey Adeline Grace McElwaney.

Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, William David “Bill” Wiley, Ray & Freda Wiley and Phillip & Greta Wiley 
all of Lula; daughter and son-in-law, Miriam & Allen McElwaney of Gainesville; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren;2 great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mildred Laverne Zimmerman

Mildred Laverne Zimmerman Irvin, age 79, of Cornelia, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021.

Born on January 28, 1942, in Cleveland, she was a daughter of the late Dan and Alice Payne Zimmerman. Mrs. Irvin was the office keeper at Irvin Lumber Company. She enjoyed gardening and quilting and was a talented seamstress and wonderful cook. Mrs. Irvin was a member of Chattahoochee Baptist Church and loved her family very much.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Johnny and Larry Glen Zimmerman.

Survivors include her husband Raymond Irvin of Cornelia; son, Allen Irvin of Cleveland; daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Ray Handte of Cleveland and Karen and Taylor Burke of Clarkesville; grandchildren: MaryBeth Handte, Travis Handte, James Stapleton, and Emma Burke; brothers: David Zimmerman of Cornelia, Frank Zimmerman of Cornelia, M.J. Zimmerman of Demorest, and Richard Zimmerman of Cornelia; sisters, Joyce Wade of Demorest and Janice Holbrooks of Cornelia; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Russell Edwin Collins

Russell Edwin Collins, age 81, of Demorest, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021.

Born on August 13, 1940, he was a son of the late William Earl and Maude George Collins. Most of his career involved automotive paint and body work, service manager for GM, and 
most recently, 18 years as Fleet Maintenance Manager for U-Haul. He was a bonafide son of God with many years of Christian ministry in the Georgia Mountains Tres Dias Community as well as other acts of service such as, Church Elder and steering committee member for local evangelic crusades. Mr. Collins was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a loving husband and wonderful grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Estelle Cheney and Irene Clifton and brothers, Don Collins and Buddy Collins.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Christine Collins; sons and daughters-in-law: William Edwin Collins and Valerie, Steven Russell Collins, Donald Earl Collins, and Michael Scott Gallops and Kristen; grandchildren: Abby, Brianna, D.J., Samantha, Hannah, Jimmy, Paul, and Christopher; nieces: Janice, Debbie, and Jenny; sister-in-law, Lucille; and brother-in-law, Billy.

Mary Jo Savage LaLonde 

Mary Jo Savage LaLonde, age 78, of Cornelia, passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2021.

Born on December 25, 1942, in Baldwin, she was a daughter of the late Otis and Lulah Savage. She worked as an account manager for Badcock Furniture. Ms. LaLonde loved playing Bingo at the 
V.F.W. She was of the Christian faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Savage.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Delmi LaLonde of Houston, Texas; daughters and son-in-law, Teresa Elzey (Luke McElreath) of Cornelia and Simone and Ronnie Crane of Douglasville; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Chevalier Yoshia Ruff 

Chevalier Yoshia Ruff (Bam) was born on July 31, 1968, in Seneca, South Carolina, to the late Mizell Holland and Gloria J. Swilling-Holland. Late in the evening on September 25, 2021, she was called home.

Chevalier was educated in the Stephens County School System and graduated with the class of 1986. During her educational years, she was active in various organizations and sports including FBLA, VICA Model, Miss SCHS Pageant, Chairman of Fall Leadership, Secretary of The Black History Committee, and received the Tomahawk award. She participated in Softball and basketball in which she was an avid teammate. She went on to seek higher education in the University of Georgia and University of Phoenix. After moving to the Habersham area, she became active in Mt. Zion Baptist Church community. During her time there, she sang in the choir, served on the usher board and helped with the youth program. She later went on to join Ebenezer Baptist Church where she continued her love to sing. She also assisted with the performing arts ministry, served as youth director, senior choir director, assistant director to the youth choir and served in the hospitality ministry. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, date nights with her husband and anything sweet.

She leaves to mourn her husband, Antoine (Andy) Ruff of Clarkesville; five children, Justin (Charkira) Holland of Toccoa, Joanna Holland of Stockbridge, Jai Holland of Cartersville, Jessica Holland-Fail of Toccoa, and Ashlin Ruff of Mt. Airy; one sister, Renae (Ricky) Gholston of Austell; nine grandchildren, Tristian, Jaxon, Dahlia, Jayla, Ella, King and newborn twins Aahlijah II & Aahliyah and Brielle; special niece and nephew, Thaddeus and Jasmine Gholston; aunts and uncle, James Swilling, Connie Scott, Dora Swilling, & Judy Swilling-Poole, Harriet Swilling & a special aunt, Daliah (Louise) Swilling; two special cousins, Carolyn Maxwell and Ericka Swilling-Nobles; mother-in-law, Barbara Blackwell; brother-in-law, Javon (Shana) Ruff; sister-in-law, Kawanya Varist; a host of cousins and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 pm on Saturday, October 2, 2021 in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Lee Banks, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Level Grove Cemetery in Cornelia.

Shirley Ann Carson Nix

Shirley Ann Carson Nix, age 70 of Cornelia, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021. 

Born in Clarkesville, Georgia on December 27, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Elfred and Mildred York Carson. Mrs. Nix was a machine over hauler with Mt. Vernon Mills for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling and flower gardening. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Nix and son-in-law, Randy Pierce. 

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey David & Misty Nix of Clarkesville; daughters, Leigh Nix of Clarkesville and Melissa Renae Pierce of Cornelia; 6 grandchildren; brother, Douglas McDonald of Cornelia; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Private graveside services will be held. 

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Friday at the funeral home.

Paul Timothy Mote

Jervis Williams, age 70, of Cornelia, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021. 

Born on August 28, 1951, in Cornelia, Georgia.  He was a son of the late Ernest Williams and Addie Lee Cherry Williams, of Cornelia. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his life partner, Patricia Faulkner. He was retired from the City of Cornelia, a native and a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Jervis loved his family and enjoyed fishing and playing a good game of Bid Whist. Mr. Williams was of the Methodist faith and a member of the Israel CME Church.  

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Renetha (Keisha) Gipson of Cornelia, 
Shara Gipson of Alto, Monica Williams of Gainesville, Kawanya Gipson of Clarkesville, Besceglia (Shelly) Faulkner 
of Demorest and Andrea “Puff” (Chris) Obanner of Baldwin; sisters and brother-in-law, Diane (Jimmy) Gibson of Cornelia, Gail “Road Dawg” Williams of Cornelia, Tammy E Davis of Augusta, South Carolina; special nephews, James K Gibson of Suwanee, Cedric D Holden of Cornelia; special niece, Tiffany Davis of Augusta, South Carolina; special cousins, Sharon “Kinfolk” Berry (Nathan), of Cornelia, L J Cherry, Johnny Broner (Bonnie), King, Gipson, Scott & Mayfield families; ten grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren also survive; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at the Level Grove Cemetery with Rev. Tracy Curry officiating.

Paul Timothy Mote

Paul Timothy Mote, age 52, of Maysville, passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021.

Born on June 15, 1969, in Commerce, Georgia, he was a son of the late Terry Spencer and Carolyn Edith White Mote. Mr. Mote was a landscaper and worked for Environmental Creations Landscaping. Paul loved his family and was a hard worker. Paul enjoyed football and was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

Survivors include son, Zachary Samuel Mote of Morgantown, West Virginia; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy Drake and Felicia Mote, of Bowersville, Georgia; daughter, Taylor Renae Whitmire, of 
Hartwell, Georgia; sister, Pam Mote Alford of Maysville, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Alexandria, Andee Mae, Bentley, Blake, Brooklyn, Wyatt and Waylon; several nephews; special friend, Amy Fields; and many additional relatives and friends also survive.  

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at the Mt. Carmel  Baptist Church, Lula, Georgia, with Rev. Tony Goss, Rev. Kenneth Barrett and Rev. Zach Watson officiating.  

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.

Neal James Smith

Neal James Smith, age 79 of Carnesville, Georgia passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021.

Born in Carnesville, Georgia on January 16, 1942, he was a son of the late Rupert Smith and Eudie Cash Smith. Mr. Smith retired from Tencate with over 20 years of service. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Allen Smith of Carnesville; son, Jamie Neal Smith of Carnesville; daughter and son-in-law, Alicia Smith & Kevin Harrison of Gillsville; grandchildren, Reece, Chason, Ashlyn, Jayce and Anden; brother, Sherman Smith of Carnesville; twin sister, Nelar McGee of Toccoa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Laura Gayle Vandiver Beddingfield, age 68 of Rex, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2021.

Born in Atlanta Georgia on July 7, 1953, she was a daughter of the late Almer Vandiver and Laura Gwendolyn Smith Vandiver. Mrs. Beddingfield was a home maker and loved to help people. She was committed to participating in community service and helping with the homeless program of her church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Tiffany Beddingfield.

Surviving are her husband, Jerry Cordell Beddingfield of Rex, Georgia; daughter, Carla Victoria Beddingfield of Rex, Georgia; sister and brother-in-law, Donna & Gary Horsley of Humble, Texas; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda & Frank Holloway of Sautee, Georgia; nieces, Jill Thomas & Tara Tadema both of Texas; special friend, Nicole Ergle.

Virginia "Ginny" Chase Kelly

Virginia “Ginny” Chase Kelly passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. She died peacefully, surrounded by members of her family. She was a special woman, loved by many and she will be sorely missed. 

She was born in Atlanta Georgia, on July 21, 1938. Called “Ginny-Boo” by her father, she was one of 2 children born to Charlie Chase and Bitsy Cox Chase. She went to North Fulton High School, before attending college at Wesleyan in Macon Georgia, and then graduating from Oglethorpe University in Brookhaven Georgia, with a degree in education. Over the course of her life she taught school, was a horse trainer, riding instructor, and show horse rider, and a licensed social worker in both Georgia and Florida. She was exceptionally and multi-talented, a singer in shows and choirs and a performer on the stages of many community theaters. She raised 5 children, all of whom grew to be successful adults and all of who had children of their own. Called “Nana” by her 11 grandchildren, she loved being a grandmother, and her grandchildren loved her. She will be remembered for many things but mostly for her love, her creativity, and her passing will leave a vacuum in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. And so, it is with great sorrow and respect that we note her passing and honor her life. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Lee Amason, and a daughter-in-law, Cricket Amason.  

Surviving are her husband, Edward “Pat” Kelly of Cornelia; brother, Charles “Buzz” Chase, Jr. of Marietta; son Allen Amason, of Statesboro, son Andy & Carole Amason, of Valona, son, Matthew & Erica Amason, of Richmond Hill; daughter Bitsy & Kurt Bernat, of Conifer, Colorado; daughter-in-law Tia Amason, of Acworth; 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, a niece and a nephew. 

A celebration of life service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2021, at Clarkesville Baptist Church, with Rev. Grady Walden officiating.

Barbara LaJune Mealor Dill, age 71 of Homer, passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021.

Born in Homer, Georgia on June 25, 1950, she was a daughter of the late Warren Mealor and Bertha Caudell Mealor. Mrs. Dill worked for Fieldale Farms for many years. She loved her family and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, J.C. Mealor, Loran Mealor and Leroy Mealor; sisters, Marlene Mealor Worley, Shelby Jean Seabolt and Eula Mae Cook.

Surviving are her daughter, Tammie McClure of Homer, grandchildren, Todd McClure and Makayla McClure; 
great grandson, Mason McClure; brother, Jarvis Mealor of Homer; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jean Green Bieder, age 93 of Cornelia, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021.

Born in Tampa, Florida on February 18, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Elmo Dunn Green and Adelaide Hill Green. Mrs. Bieder worked for Habersham Bank for 25 years. She loved feeding and watching birds.

Surviving are her husband, Richard H. Bieder of Cornelia; sons and daughter-in-law, Richard “Alan” Bieder of Cornelia and Brian Dunn Bieder (Marianne) of Hoschton; daughter and son-in-law, Candice Greer (Mark) of Hartwell; 9 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law, Fred Green and Bill Green (Jackie) all of Fayetteville; sister, Genevieve Haynie of Cornelia; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Frank M. Kinney

Frank M. Kinney, age 93 of Clarkesville, passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021.

Born in Clarkesville, Georgia on November 16, 1927, he was a son of the late Marvin Kinney and Evelyn Smith Kinney. Mr. Kinney was a self-employed brick mason and taught Masonry courses at North Georgia Technical College. He was a member of the VFW Post #7720. In his spare time he loved horses and horse trading, he was an avid gardener, loved playing cards with his family and reading western books. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Welborn “Dot” Kinney; a son, Marvin Cecil Kinney; brothers, Raymond, Hugh and Harvey; sisters, Beryle, Mildred, Irene and Pauline.

Surviving are his sons, Morris Kinney and Benny Kinney both of the Hollywood Community; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy & Phil Ivester of the Hollywood Community and Pam & Jerry Brooks of Clayton; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great - great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law,

Geraldine Rebecca McElhannon Hart

Geraldine Rebecca McElhannon Hart, age 78, of Cornelia, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021.

Born in Athens, on November 23, 1942, she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Minnie Bell Stephens  McElhannon. Mrs. Hart was formerly employed with Alto Grocery as night manager for over 12 years. She was a member of Cornelia Congregational Holiness Church and taught Children’s Church for over 40 years. Mrs. Hart enjoyed reading the Bible, cross stitching, needle point stitching, cooking, and crafts in her spare time.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hart was also preceded in death by sons, Jeffrey Eugene Hart and Kenneth Kevin Hart; 
brother, Carlton Jackson McElhannon; and sisters, Sarah Frances Davis and Barbara Ann McCoy.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Hart of Cornelia; daughters, Tamari Hill (Bradley) of Baldwin and Stephanie Herring (Kim Nix) of Danielsville; daughter-in-law, Janet Hart of Watkinsville; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Edna Lois Allen Black

In Loving Memory

Edna Lois Allen Black 
July 7, 1933 – September 17, 2021

Edna Lois Allen Black, of Gainesville, formerly of Demorest, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021, at the age of 88 after a period of declining health.  

She was the daughter of the late Arvel West and Nell Power Allen. Edna was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Russell Herman Black and seven of her eight brothers and sisters.

Edna is survived by her son, Joel Dennis Black of Sandy Springs; daughter, Beverly Black Lammers (Tom) of Sautee; grandson, Zachary Thomas Lammers (Tracy) and great-grandson, Russell Thomas Lammers, all of Roswell; sister, Yvonne Lindsay (Charles “Bunky”) of Clarkesville; and a number of nieces and nephews. Edna’s family was very important to her.

As an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church until recent years, Edna was involved in diverse aspects of leadership including teacher of pre-school children to senior adults, church benevolence, discipleship, training and many supporting activities. She was a member of the Singing Saints choir.

Edna graduated from Clarkesville High School in 1950 as the class valedictorian. She was a graduate of Piedmont College, North Georgia College and State University, and the University of Georgia. She completed six years of college after age 37. Most of her work years were spent in the Habersham County Schools in the positions of teacher, instructional supervisor, and curriculum director.

Edna grew up on the farm and always considered it a blessing to be a part of a large family. She had an appreciation 
for hard work. She was number six in a family of nine children.

Edna would openly share that her best decisions in life were to accept Jesus as her personal Savior and to marry 
Herman Black. Herman and Edna always believed that God put them together.

Edna will be laid to rest following a private family Celebration of Life service. Inurnment will be at Bethlehem 
Baptist Church Cemetery in Clarkesville beside her beloved husband of 65 years.

Geralene Tomlin Hicks, age 94 of Cleveland, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021.

Born in Cleveland, Georgia on April 27, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Hoke Tomlin and Cora Lee Bowen Tomlin. Mrs. Hicks was a retired Poultry Farmer and a member of Good News Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hicks was also preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Charlie Price Hicks; brother, Lloyd Tomlin; sister, Sylvia Ann Chastain.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Mitcheal and Sandra Hicks of Cleveland; grandchildren, Allyson Jones (Steve), Brandon Hicks, and Heath Hicks all of Cleveland, and Jared Hicks (Bea) of Dawsonville; great grandchildren, Emilee Jones and Chase Hicks; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Tony Kirk Maxwell

Tony Kirk Maxwell, age 55, of Cornelia, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021.

Born on June 10, 1966, in Springfield, Ohio, he was a son of the late Walter Brown and Shirley McKee Howard. Mr. Maxwell spent most of his life in North Georgia. He loved his children and in-laws and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his father-in-law.  He also loved Bruce Lee and Tony Stewart and was one who never met a stranger. Mr. Maxwell had a passion for cooking and was the owner and operator of Big T’s BBQ and Catering. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Delores Denise Young Maxwell of Cornelia; son, Xavier Maxwell of Lawrenceville; daughters, Toni S. Maxwell of Cornelia and Lashawn Thompson of Arizona;
